June: "Playing with Red"

"Playing with Red" invites you to explore the expressive potential of this vibrant colour. You can showcase it through any subject —figures, landscapes, still life, florals, etc.—and in any style, whether traditional, abstract, or contemporary. Consider using shades of red, perhaps in contrast with other colours, to evoke emotion in portraits, create dramatic landscapes, convey power in animals, or add warmth to cozy interiors. Think of sunsets, autumn forests, red fruits, flowers, or objects. Use red to highlight focal points or express intense moments. Whether you use red abundantly or just as an accent, let your creativity flow.

November: "Complementary Colour Statement"
Create a focus with the use of complementary colour (for example, a yellow throat in a purple iris). This can be shown through any subject —figures, scapes, still life, florals, etc.—and in any style, whether traditional, abstract, or contemporary.

Winners of any PSA Set Subject Competition become ineligible to enter the annual Alexandra Awards (for members who’ve never won a first prize for a pastel painting in an art competition) , run in conjunction with the PSA Annual Awards Exhibition.
