Jane Wray: Conquering the Wave

2 DAY WORKSHOP

The workshop explores ocean waves beginning with the traditional, classic wave structure and progressing on Day 2 to a freer, multi-directional wave using a softer colour palette.

Expected Outcomes:

Students will learn how to paint classic waves and 'messy' waves using two very different approaches. The workshop will cover creating transparency, water depth, foam, spume, movement and depth in the work.

Jane’s soft pastel works are concerned with creating images of robust contemporary

realism. As well as a focus on different environments in landscape painting, she explores still

life and even abstracts. There is a strong focus on light to develop the atmospherics of the

pieces.

Her subjects are often unexpected and fascinating. Wendy Sharpe has described Jane’s work

as, sensitive, skilful work at once soft and dramatic. The simplicity of her chosen images is

a base from which she adds beauty, delicacy and intricacy.

Jane is a multi-award winning pastellist and an Associate Member of The Royal Art Society
